Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 5)
Vishous says to Jane: “I love you. And I’m going to keep loving you even after you don’t know I exist.”
The ruthless and brilliant brother Vishous possesses a destructive curse and a frightening ability to see the future. As a member of the Brotherhood, he has no interest in love or emotion, only the battle with the Lessening Society. But when a mortal injury puts him in the care of a human surgeon, Dr. Jane Whitcomb compels him to reveal his inner pain and taste true pleasure for the first time-until a destiny he didn’t choose takes him into a future that does not include her… (Go get your Lover Unbound…)
Though it is not recommended to start the series here but rather to start with Dark Lover, book 1, and work your way through, this is exactly where I began. This book was why I read the others. Not for the faint hearted, there’s coarse language and Vishous is…complicated. Growing to maturity under sever physical and sexual abuse, this brother has scars. Resident IT guru and a key team player when it comes to tagging the Lessers as down and out for good, his taste runs into BDSM and the Warden deals with this, she doesn’t gloss over it or turn away. Bravo. I don’t need my alpha males to be brand new out of the box, I expect them to have been played with hard, to be slightly damaged goods. Like reality, everyone has a past we must live in spite of. As in Lover Revealed, more of the odd vibe between Butch and V is explored, and I’m thinking there’s more to come here. I did love this book, I ached for Vischous when he had to wipe Jane’s memory and leave her behind. “He put his bare hand to her cheek and felt the softness and warmth of her face. He knew that when he pulled out of here, he was leaving his stupid fucking heart with her. Sure, something would beat behind his ribs and keep his blood moving around, but it would just be a mechanical function from now on. Oh, wait. It had been like that before. She’d just given the thing flesh and life for a short time. He pulled her into his arms and rested his chin on the top of her head. Holy hell, he was never again going to smell chocolate and not think of her, not pine for her.” While I deeply enjoyed the other books in this series, V is the brother that all other’s must measure against….sorry Zsadist.
